Keegan's Story

Team Keegan was created by my son who was diagnosed with an inoperable cancerous brain tumor on Sept. 29 2010, a day before his 9th birthday. Keegan has had a double port placed, 6 cycles of Chemo (1 week in the hospital and two weeks off to let his body recover), and 30 radiation treatments to his head and spine. He was announced in remisson on May 6, 2011. We created Team Keegan because he wanted to bring gift bags to the kids on the cancer floor at the Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. He said, “No matter how sick the Chemo made me when the child life specialist came in with a gift for me I would feel much better.”  Team Keegan became a Non-Profit Organization with the state Michigan on March 7th, 2012.  We received our IRS tax exemption on July 25 2012.  Team Keegan's new mission is to still bring toys to our local Children's Hospital and to do our Annual Christmas Eve party with them but now to include creating handmade toy boxes in which we call the "Team Keegan Prize Box" , fill them with toys and UPS them to the home of the child that is battling cancer 100% free to these families.  These kids deserve the world for what they have to endure on an everyday basis. Our Team Keegan Prize Boxes will serve as an incentive for being brave.  After a poke, chemo, or any struggle the child can go to his or her box and pick out a toy for overcoming it.  This idea was from Keegan because we had to give him 64 Neupogen shots and on the 10 one we had to chase him around the house we told him that we would get him whatever he wanted if he took his shot.  That worked so we decided to create the Team keegan Prize Box to help other children who may have the same difficulty in their cancer journey.  Through Keegan we have learned so much.  He is a warrior for God and he amazes me more and more everyday with his caring heart and his strong Faith!
